What’s Up? (12/9/13)

This blog has 50 followers now, which is a great statistic and all, except I know how willy-nilly I give out “follows” on WordPress, and I imagine that most of these followers are just looking for follow-backs. Except that I know some of you out there must be actual followers because you don’t actually write blogs, and some of you have liked and left comments on posts… so maybe there’s something cool happening here after all.

Continuing with the whole, life-not-on-fire business (which is a term I’m starting to like), I thought I’d write what my schedule looks like, in part so that I can finally see what’s due when, and in part so that you can see what kind of work load I’m facing.

Monday: Nothing’s due today, but free time should be used to complete things ahead of schedule.

Tuesday: Some meaningless assignment is due at 3PM from a horrible professor I wish I could forget, in a class that added very little to my communication-skills portfolio. (Is currently 60% complete as of this post). Tuesday should be spent completing assignments and studying for the might giant that is Wednesday.

Wednesday: The 3,000-4,000 story about Row House Cinema is due, along with a Podcast about the story, by 12PM. (Is currently at 3,500 words as of this post, but still needs a lot of work). The final story determines most if not all of my grade in that journalism class. Intro to Psychology final exam at 2PM; it can’t hurt my final grade which currently stands at a C, but it could raise it as high as a B. Wednesday should be spent in part on the two things due that day, and then after 3PM focus should shift to Thursday’s workload.

Thursday: A 2,000 word research paper about sonic branding is due by 12AM for my Consumerism course. (It currently stands at 1,000 words). This paper will not determine whether I pass or fail, but it will have a significant impact on the grade, though the professor seems to be an easy grader. Thursday should be spent working on Friday’s workload and airport preparation.

Friday: A 2,000 word revised edit of an existing 600-1,000 word paper is due by 10AM, and then a final exam based on this semester’s literature readings will take up my time until 11:30AM. Flight is at 5PM, so there is some backup time to pack and prepare for flight if I’m too busy to do these things on Thursday.

Leaving Pittsburgh In Three Hours

…Well I’m leaving the apartment in three hours at the very least. Then I’m taking an hour long bus ride to Pittsburgh International, and by nine o’clock I’ll be on an hour long flight home to Long Island. I just peeked outside, and the snow has stopped for now, the very snow which prompted the rescheduling of my flight home from Wednesday to Tuesday. I’ve never rescheduled a flight before, it’s an expensive ordeal, but I’m thankful for the opportunity to fly home a day early, and outside of the looming chaos that is snowstorm-meets-Thanksgiving travel.

I’m all packed up, but the prospect of getting two hours of sleep before a flight really doesn’t interest me. It never has. I have this thing; and I might have written about it before, about sleeping before flights. First of all, I’m too excited to sleep easily, secondly I’m going to be nervous about oversleeping somehow and missing a flight, and finally I just think that an airport is best enjoyed in a low-energy state. You get in and you stand on line, listen to music, read, and a whole bunch of other very non-taxing things.

There’s still time to kill, and I’d think about putting on a few records if it wasn’t so late. Sure, I could throw in some headphones, but I want to dance to my music, I want to play it loud. I’ll maybe do some reading to pass the time, or pace around the room trying to remember what I could have forgotten to pack. I’m not against starting some art projects with my remaining time, or crawling into my bed for warmth and comfort and very intentionally not sleep.

What’s Up? (8/12/13)

I honestly don’t know what day it is anymore. I’ve got so little time until I go back to Pittsburgh. I’m running out of time to find somebody to see Anamanaguchi with me this Friday.  I’m leaving the 22nd and moving in one the 23rd. My battery is at 42%. I spent today catching up on my Showtime shows, after spending yesterday consumed with Breaking Bad. I’m trying pack my possessions early so that move-in-day isn’t so chaotic. It’s hard to pack your possessions early because putting something away now means not using it or seeing it for x amount of days. Is this as organized as this box could be? Could I fit more into this box? This box is freaking heavy.

No joke though, one box is like 90% books and shouldn’t be carried by a single person.

I either need more time or less time, but I hate this in between phase. There’s not enough time to do everything I wanted this summer, there’s too much time to just pack up and leave just yet. What’s left is this weird feeling that I don’t like. Trying to squeeze the most out of everything; making every day perfect – it just makes every day worse. It’s like squeezing the last drops out of a lemon I’d rather just toss.

Other than that, times are okay. These last days aren’t so bad in reality, just very tiring on the mind. My battery is at 37%.
